What I Do When I Need A Job
There have been some times in my life when I have been unemployed, and was really in desperate need for a job. I would look and look through the papers and online, and usually run into roadblock after roadblock. I finally discovered that I was going about it all wrong, and I eventually changed my strategy to something that found really helped me. When I need a job, I follow a couple of steps that have helped me to find employment on three separate occasions and gave me peace of mind.
When I need a job, the first thing that I do is make all of my friends aware of the fact that I am out of work. This is always a good idea, because you never know who is hiring at the time or where you can get on. I have often found that what is more important is who you know rather than what you know, and on two separate occasions I got jobs at places because my friends recommended me. I would always recommend posting to Facebook or sending out a mass e-mail when one loses employment, because I have found jobs in literally days by doing so.
The second thing I try to do when I need a job is to go to as many temp agencies as possible and put in my resume. When I do that, I am giving myself a great opportunity of getting hired on with a company that is in need of help and could use me for as much as a couple of months or a year. In some cases, temporary jobs actually turn into permanent jobs, because a person has made an asset of themselves and the employer values their work ethic. I have seen it happen a couple of times.
The third step I take when I need a job is to go out and beat the streets. I try to ask as many places as I can if they are hiring. I understand that a lot of places are doing all of their hiring online these days, but it is always a good idea to get out and talk to people in charge of hiring and let them know you are looking for work. Rather than just being another name and resume, let people know who you are, what you look like, that you are serious about finding employment and that you want to work for their company.
I know it has been very tough for me when I need a job and can’t find one. It can be quite scary. I have found that following these steps, however, can make things a lot easier.
