Life has a way of getting away from us, especially after we get married and/or have children with someone we love. Kids are amazing and the family life can be great, but it is harder for couples to connect with each other and sustain the intimacy they once had before kids. This is why every couple should make sure they always have time for just each other, even if that time is limited. Holidays for couples is one way that some stay in touch with each other, even if they can only get away together for one week or weekend a year. Sometimes, this is all it takes to keep things on track.
Holidays for couples can be taken at any time of the year. What you have to decide is what type of trip you want to take. Many couples with children have to go when they have someone who can stay with the kids for a few days or a week. Grandma and grandpa may not always be able to do it, so don't forget your extended family or close friends. If you can, swap favors with them. Take their kids for a long weekend if they will do the same for you. It may sound odd to go on vacation without your kids, but it is something that can greatly solidify your marriage when life gets in the way.
There are resorts that have special holidays for couples. These are not only for couples with children that need some much needed alone time together, but also for those that have no children, but perhaps have hectic jobs and lives and they find that they are not connecting like they use to. This is a great idea, even if you can only go for a few nights. These are child-free so that you are sure to have time alone and won't be distracted from each other by other people's children as well. It's not anti-children by any means, but it is for adults to have that much needed quiet to be with each other.
You do not have to go to a resort for holidays for couples. You can go anywhere you wish. Just remember that are always going to be children that you see, but as long as you are able to concentrate on each other, that shouldn't matter too much. You are not getting away from your kids because you do not like them you are doing it to keep your relationship strong so that they always have mom and dad under the same roof. Children can be a distraction even though they are not yours and can remind you that you miss your own, but as long as you go somewhere you can relax together, you should be able to reconnect as you imagined.
Sometimes, you may have so much going on and so little money to go around that you feel holidays for couples are simply not for you. This does not have to be true. Even one night away can work wonders for your relationship as long as you can leave your children with someone you trust. Think about a nice hotel nearby and a sleep-over with an aunt and uncle for your kids. You just have to pay for the hotel, gas money to get there and a few meals. Check in and spend the night without worrying about bottles, diapers, toys or temper tantrums and just be a couple. It can revitalize you both more than you know.
