How to Get Advertising on Your Website

Whether you're an old hand at running a website and you're just wondering if a little extra advertising revenue would be a bad thing, or if you're just getting started and you're dreaming of vast riches pouring in through getting advertisements, there are specific ways to go about it. Conceptually, it's easy to figure out how to get advertising on your the website is just this – you need to aim your website at a specific niche, and you have to get a lot of traffic from that niche. That's all.

Of course, you're saying – if you had all of that, the advertising would come on its own. You wouldn't be reading articles on the Internet on how to get advertising on your website.

Well, that makes sense. But even if you don't have a great niche website and lots of traffic, there still are ways you can do this.

One of which would be to get started by promoting an affiliate product. All you need to do here is to pick a product that has an affiliate program going,and promote the product on your website.

Of course, the first thing that people think of when they hear of this is that they should just go over to Amazon and pick up a couple of products. But that would be very bad idea. Amazon pays only a very modest commission, and you don't even get that a lot of the time. It would be a much better idea to go to affiliate marketing websites like ClickBank and see what you can promote there. You would get lots of low-key, but highly marketable products that pay a handsome commission. Design advertising yourself to promote those things on your website, and just see how far it takes you.

You could also go with Google AdSense and place advertising on your website. Of course, this is likely to pay very little, unless you get a good deal of targeted traffic. But of course, AdSense isn't the only player in the market. There's AdBrite, Bidvertiser, Chitika, Infolinks, Intellilinks, Pocket Cents and so on.

It isn't a bad idea, if you get a reasonable amount of traffic, to actually go sell ad space to businesses. You don't have to go after the major multinational corporations. If you happen to run a small kitchen equipment website for instance, you could go to the manufacturers of the equipment that you sell, for advertising.

It isn't just that you have to figure out how to get advertising on your website though. You mustn't think that all you have to do is to find a way to get a few ads on your website, and then wait for a paycheck. It takes testing and research to actually get results. Sometimes for instance, the presence of ads on a website can turn visitors off. This way, you'll actually be losing money by placing ads there. It takes research and testing.
